Prayer

Pray one for me

In time of trouble, crisis, and thanksgiving many of us 'say a prayer'. Research conducted for the charity Tearfund in 2007 concluded that as many as 20 million adults in the UK (42% of the population) pray.

But for those who find it difficult, the Church of England has launched a new website, www.prayoneforme.org, where anyone can post their prayer requests and know that they will be prayed.

The website, launched on Ash Wednesday, will be supported by church groups and prayer communities across the Church of England. They will pray the prayers. The site will be open throughout the year.

The new site and its supporting page on Facebook (www.facebook.com/prayoneforme) will also have short profiles about some of the people and groups who will be praying the prayers. It will also link to information for those wanting to know more about praying for themselves.

Prayer is a vital part of our life and work. Prayer forms an integral part of our Sunday services and home groups and we also organize regular men’s and women’s prayer breakfasts and church prayer days. We encourage members of our church to pray regularly for local, national and global needs and include a prayer diary in InSpire, our monthly magazine. More recently we have organised courses on listening prayer.

We meet for prayer at 7.00pm each Monday evening in church. Come along and join us.
In addition to our weekly prayer meetings we host morning prayer at 8.30am in our Prayer Chapel each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. You are most welcome to join us for morning prayer.

We also have a prayer book in the Prayer Chapel where you may record any prayer needs. As a church, we pray regularly for all prayer requests.

Prayer Walking

Weekly, throughout the year, Christians walk the streets of our parish asking for God’s blessing on all the 3,330 households. During these quiet walks, where we pray about what we see and experience, we also deliver prayer request cards. These invite householders to ask us to privately pray for specific issues for themselves and their loved ones; for healing, for comfort, for strength, for peace. There is no need to give a name or address, just a request – unless they would like a minister or church member to contact them.

As a loving parent, God loves us and wants us to share all our worries with Him.
