Abbot Christopher Jamison explains complicated ideas and emotions with great clarity.  He constructs sentences with familiar language which is elegant and forceful.  Here is one of my favourite ones: 'Hope is the surest remedy against sadness and so we have to take conscious steps to sustain hope.'

Using the framework of Eight Thoughts, from which the Seven Deadly Sins are derived, he explains how we can develop self-awareness that can lead to happiness.  Happiness is a state which should not be confused with pleasure, and which contains within it elements of virtue and spirituality. This book is easy to read, but it is not an easy read - it asks us to take responsibility and to think hard about sin and virtue.

I suggest you read it through and then dip into it frequently; I think it will help you on your journey.
