Coming up …..

Let there be light!

Are you school aged (5-18)? Would you like to come and be part of a New Musical to be staged at St Mary’s on Friday December 5th and Saturday 6th?

You don’t have to be fantastic at singing – just enthusiastic about the idea of acting and singing in a fun musical about God, telling the story of “Creation, Temptation and….Jesus – the early years!”. There will be some commitment required to come along to rehearsals, but the plan is to enjoy ourselves, while working hard to make something really good! We’re going to make an initial start on the Sunday afternoon of September 14th 2.30 – 4.30pm. The rehearsals will probably swap around day-wise and won’t always involve every age group.

Any enquiries to Mark Brown 473277 email: markjotardis@yahoo.co.uk Put it in your diary now!

Recycle your surplus medication

WHY? To benefit African countries in great need of medication that we do not need and would otherwise be wasted.

WHAT? Medications, drugs and surgical items surfeit to requirements with an expiry date of 15 months.

WHERE? The Dispensary at the Danbury Medical Centre, Eves Corner, Danbury.

You can make a difference to the health of people in Africa at no cost to you, just a little effort! For further details, see leaflet on notice board under Mission at the back of Church.

Ride & Stride

Saturday 13th September 2014
A Note for your diaries. “Ride and Stride” is an event in aid of Friends of Essex Churches which involves walking or cycling to as many Churches as possible in Essex on a sponsored basis. Half of the funds raised by members of our Church come back to St Mary’s to pay for repairs and maintenance. The other half goes to the Friends to help other Churches in Essex. It doesn’t matter how many Churches you visit as long as you get plenty of sponsorship money! We hope that as many people as possible will get on their bikes or on their feet to take part in 2014. Please note the date in your diaries and, although it is couple of months away, please start getting sponsors lined up. Stephen Foakes is coordinating “Ride and Stride” for St Mary’s. He will have sponsorship forms available at the back of Church and is very happy to answer any questions about the event after morning service. He can also be contacted on Tel: 01245 603292 or email:Stephen_foakes@btinternet.com for further information and sponsorship forms.

Confirmation

Confirmation is an important milestone in our journey of faith and our participation in church life. It is an opportunity to state publicly our faith in Christ and our decision to live life his way, and is a significant event for the individuals being confirmed and for all of us as a church family.

We’ll be holding a Confirmation service in St Mary’s on 30 November this year. Confirmation is usually open to those of age 12 upwards, and there is no upper limit! If you have not already been baptised, and are 12 or above, we would normally arrange for baptism and confirmation to take place at the same time. If you feel this might be the next step for you to take, or you just want to find out more about what it involves – whether you have been a Christian for years or have newly come to faith – then please speak to Philip or Katie.

Alpha in the Autumn

Would you like a refresher course in the essentials of the Christian faith? Do you want a chance to ask the questions you’ve never got around to asking before? Would you like to deepen your understanding of who Jesus is? Do you have a friend who would be interested to find out more about God and faith? If the answer to any of those is yes, then the Alpha course is the opportunity you are looking for! We will be running the course this autumn, starting in late September. All are welcome – those who’ve been Christians for a while; those who’ve never set foot inside a church; those who are exploring what faith means to them. As an extra incentive, we serve great puddings and cakes each week! For more information, speak to Wendy Ross, Katie, or Jacqui in the Church Office.

CABC Conference

Saturday 18th October
10am – 4pm at Central Baptist Church. The theme is ‘Joshua: Living on promised turf.’

Buildings Review Group

At its meeting in May the DCC set up a Buildings Review Group to look at the options for developing our church buildings so they better serve our mission and ministry at St. Mary’s. As part of the review process the BRG will be holding a series of consultation meetings during the autumn with the various groups who use our buildings. The purpose of these meetings will be to find out what our present needs are and to explore what facilities we might need to develop our work. There will also be consultation with the whole church congregation later in the year once we have a clearer picture of the options.

Please pray for this work over the coming weeks and if you have any questions please ask a member of the BRG. Details about the consultation meetings will be given after the summer holidays. The members of the BRG are: Jeremy Budd, Philip Ritchie, Sue Marlow, Sue Cilvert, Glenn Finch, Neil McLean, Roy Bartholomew and Kay Pountney.
